Brian Wallenfelt is a Patent Attorney with Brake Hughes Bellermann LLP. Brian’s practice focuses on the representation of high-technology clients in connection with strategic patent counseling and prosecution.

Brian focuses on the representation of various clients in connection with the electrical, computer, software, and medical device fields. His expertise in these fields includes, for example image processing and image/video encoding, three-dimensional computer graphics, mobile device operating systems, parallel computing/high performance computing/supercomputing, machine learning, speech and intent recognition, and bioinformatics. Brian also often performs infringement and validity analysis of issued patents. In addition, Brian advises clients on licensing negotiations and drafts licensing agreements relating to technology and intellectual property.

Prior to joining Brake Hughes Bellermann LLP, Brian spent over four years working for Merchant & Gould P.C. While at Merchant, Brian’s practice focused on strategic patent counseling, prosecution, post-grant proceedings, and licensing. Prior to his legal career, Brian served in various engineering and management roles at multiple technology and medical device companies—ranging in maturity from early-stage startup to established multinational. He is a prolific inventor with over twenty patent applications filed, many of which have now issued as patents. Perhaps most importantly, Brian was also a frequent consumer of legal services during this time. Brian understands first-hand what businesses expect from attorneys: communication, cost-effective services, and solutions.
