J. Richard Soderberg is a Principal at Brake Hughes Bellermann LLP in Silicon Valley. Mr. Soderberg’s practice focuses on patent analysis and counseling, including drafting and prosecution of patent applications for high-tech companies.
Before joining the firm, Mr. Soderberg served as head of patents at Tesla Motors, where he established the patent department and advised the company on U.S. and international matters regarding prosecution, licensing, reexamination and litigation of patents. At Tesla, Mr. Soderberg prepared and prosecuted patent applications in technologies relating to electric vehicles and lithium-ion energy storage systems, including AC induction motor design and operation, inverters and IGBTs, cell charging and discharging methodologies, battery pack thermal management, vehicle closures and other body structures, and designs.
Previously, Mr. Soderberg was in private practice at Fish & Richardson P.C. (2000-2013), serving clients in matters of patent prosecution, counseling and litigation. Representative areas of technology include enterprise resource planning software, database management, animation special effects, optical surveillance systems, internet software, anomaly detection systems, mobile devices, nanotechnology, network architectures, factory control systems, graphics processing, and e-commerce.
