Peter J. Melsa is a Registered Patent Agent with Brake Hughes Bellermann LLP. Mr. Melsa’s practice focuses on the representation of high-technology clients in connection with strategic patent counseling and prosecution.
Mr. Melsa focuses on the representation of various clients in connection with patent prosecution in the electrical and mechanical fields. His expertise in these fields includes, for example, telecommunications, software technologies, microprocessor architectures, optics, cloud computing, and semiconductor processing.
Prior to joining Brake Hughes Bellermann LLP, Mr. Melsa spent three years working for Whirlpool Corporation. While at Whirlpool, Mr. Melsa’s practice focused on patent counseling and prosecution for large and small domestic appliances, and connected appliances for the burgeoning Internet of Things. Prior to Whirlpool, Mr. Melsa worked as a Patent Agent for Drinker, Biddle and Reath; and Hanley, Flight and Zimmerman. Mr. Melsa had an extensive career as an Electrical Engineer for Tellabs and Texas Instruments, where he focused on advanced research in the areas of broadband communications and signal processing. He served as an editor for the International Standard instrumental in bringing high-speed Internet service to vast numbers of residences and business; and is a Senior Member of the IEEE. He has published over 10 papers in peer-reviewed conferences and journals; and is an inventor on more than 20 granted patents. He earned a B.S. in Electrical Engineering (1987), summa cum laude, from The University of Notre Dame, and an M.S. in Electrical and Computer Engineering (1988) from North Carolina State University. Mr. Melsa is admitted to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
