Tawnya Ferbiak Somauroo is an associate with Brake Hughes Bellermann LLP, where her practice focuses on the preparation and prosecution of domestic and international patent applications in the mechanical, electrical, and software arts. Ms. Somauroo has experience securing patent protection in a wide range of technologies, including software systems, remote sensing and weather instruments, flow meters, valves, aerospace components, display, and aerospace technologies.
Prior to joining Brake Hughes Bellermann LLP, Ms. Somauroo practiced with intellectual property firms in Colorado and London, United Kingdom, where she gained experience in both U.S. and European patent prosecution.
Before entering the legal profession, Ms. Somauroo worked for eight years as an aerospace engineer at the Laboratory for Atmospheric and Space Physics at the University of Colorado. In that role, she developed flight software and led integration and test for several space-based instruments flying on NASA missions, including on Space Shuttle, low-Earth-orbiting, and interplanetary missions.
